The Charles H. Cecil Studios was founded by Charles Cecil in 1983. This studio uses the traditional method of sight-size technique in training its students in drawing and painting portraits. This technique is derived from the ateliers of 19th century Paris.
The School
The program begins with drawing casts and figures with charcoal. Then students progress to portrait drawing. In the second year, they focus on painting portraits and figures. Preparation of canvas and materials are also taught during the second year. In the third year, students paint large scale portraits and figures. Mr. Cecil gives weekly lectures on art history, painting, and sculpture.

Charles Cecil Studios are located in the historical center of Florence near Porta San Frediano and at Lungarno Serristori. The rooms are lit by natural light. This area is Florence’s lovely artistic quarter that is filled with artisan workshops, galleries, shops and markets.
